With over a decade's experience in stakeholder management, strategic communications, campaigning, public policy, and advocacy, Nevena is a passionate and purposeful leader who works to create a more equitable and sustainable future.
Nevena has extensive cross-bench experience, having served as the Federal Secretary and Campaign Director of the Australian Sex Party. She has run as a candidate in both state and federal elections and worked as the campaign manager for Fiona Patten when she became the first Australian Sex Party MP to be elected to Parliament.
Nevena has been actively engaged in civil society and she has served as an Australian delegate at the United Nations' Commission of the Status of Women. She worked as the Campaign Director for the Home Stretch Reform, a successful initiative that increased the age of out-of-home care in all Australian jurisdictions from 18 to 21 and has also supported campaigns for Amnesty International.
She has also worked across corporate, academic, and Victorian public service sectors, where she was responsible for managing the public relations for the George Pell trial at the Country Court of Victoria.
Nevena is a member of LGBTIQ+ and multicultural communities, as well as a proud first-generation migrant. She served as Convener of the Victorian Pride Lobby for five years, supported GiveOUT Australia for over two years to raise critically needed funds for the LGBTIQ+ community, and was an inaugural member Banyule City Council LGBTIQ+ Advisory Committee. She authored a monthly op-ed article for Pro Bono Australia highlighting social issues, news, and legislative reform impacting Australia's LGBTIQA+ community. Nevena has also been recognised as one of the Outstanding 50 Australian LGBTI+ Leaders by Deloitte and Google.
Nevena holds a Master of Public Policy & Management, Bachelor of Arts (Media & Communication), Certificate of Public Narrative from Harvard Kennedy School, and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors as well as the Institute Of Community Directors Australia. She has completed the University of Melbourne’s Pathways to Politics for Women program, the Victorian Government’s LGBTIQ+ Leadership Program, and McKinsey’s Leadership Forum.
She is a non-executive Director on numerous community boards and advisory groups that advocate for LGBTIQ+ health, independent media, and building leadership capacity.
