Elections and not-for-profits

For not-for-profit organisations, an election means opportunity.

In the window of time before the caretaker period (when the Parliament is dissolved and politicians and the public service separate), political stakeholders are more open to meeting with organisations. They’re more likely to be agreeable. And, importantly, they’re looking for funding and policy commitments to make that will give them the best shot at winning the election.

Our election checklist walks you through what to do in order to position your organisation strategically, making use of best practice political tactics. There are also some tips for navigating the election environment. Actioning this guide will set your organisation up for the greatest government engagement success in the lead-up, during and after the election.
